Wind moves through the branches before the camera does. Every branch and foliage element in Scanned Poplar and Aspen Forest with Seasons carries wind animation, and the leaf color shifts depending on where the object is placed on the map. Both behaviors are driven through material parameters, so a level designer can tune how strongly a grove reacts without swapping geometry.

The species list is specific: 10 Poplar A trees (Populus nigra, Lombardy poplar), 8 Poplar B trees (Populus tremula, European aspen), 5 poplar saplings, and 3 shrubs of Ilex aquifolium (European holly). Poplars and aspens anchor the collection, giving scene builders a coherent range of native temperate vegetation instead of a random assortment of unrelated tree genera.

Season-Variant Trees and Urban/Forest Shape Split

All flora elements have spring, summer, autumn, and winter versions. The same aspen stand can run through a yearly timeline or be re-skinned for another level. Medium and big tree sizes also come in two shapes. Urban versions are healthy specimens that suit landscape gardening in urban areas or forest areas that are not dense. Forest versions are intended for dense forest environments, where spacing and crown shape have to read as crowded. One placement choice can therefore switch an open park into a closed canopy.

Ground Level: Ferns, Flowers, Grass Groups, Detail Assets

Understory content includes 2 ferns, 13 flowers, 4 grasses, 11 detail assets, and 5 grass group meshes meant for the terrain grass layer. The grass group meshes are not single blades to place one by one; they are cluster assets built for terrain painting. The detail assets and flower meshes fill the space between tree trunks and rock surfaces, which stops the forest floor from collapsing into bare textures when the camera drops low.

Rocks, Terrain Textures, and a Footprint-Catching Road

The rock category spans 3 big rocks, 2 medium rocks, 9 small rocks, and 2 photoscanned rocks. Every winter rock gets a dynamic snow layer, so the same stone can appear bare in one level and partially buried in snow in the next. Terrain relies on 17 photoscanned textures taken from the same area, all set to the same texel density. Because the source area matches, blending one terrain material into another preserves a consistent scale. An outer mesh for distance mountains is also part of the terrain kit.

A road mesh with a photoscanned footprint POM material takes care of winter pathways. It is made for snowy roads that record footprints, so a forest trail can show where characters or vehicles passed.

Engine Version Notes: Nanite, LODs, Collision, Project Settings

Support differs by Unreal version. For UE 5.1, all models support Nanite except landscape grass, and trees, rocks, stones, and outer meshes keep high poly meshes for that pipeline. On UE4.x and UE 5.0 every model has LODs; big flora objects use four LODs at 100%, roughly 40%, roughly 5%, and a billboard. Collision is built in with trees using capsule volumes and other assets using auto-generated shapes. Textures are prepared for PBR.

For UE 5.5, the source includes a lighting-specific setting. If shadows become too dark in the sample scenes, the Local Exposure Shadow Contrast value under Project Settings should be set to 0.5. This is a practical adjustment that avoids rebalancing every light in the level.

Example Levels for the Four Seasons and a Model Showcase

Seven example levels address the four seasons, plus a separate showcase level for the models. The seasonal scenes provide a direct way to see the same trees in different phases, and the model showcase isolates each asset for inspection before full level assembly.

This resource answers the need for a realistic poplar and aspen forest without broad compromises. The pieces that make the forest read as scanned and alive are the seasonal variants, wind across branches and foliage, per-position color variation, terrain from one photoscanned site, rocks with snow layers, and a road surface that keeps winter footprints.
