Resource overview

Setting up exterior environments in Unreal Engine demands plant life that can hold up under close scrutiny while remaining viable across large landscapes. Foliage VOL.10 - Yard Plants (Nanite and Low Poly) Arrives as a dual-resolution package, giving developers the choice between high-fidelity Nanite geometry and lightweight low poly meshes. Built entirely within Unreal Engine, the assets include all maps and materials needed for immediate integration into outdoor scenes.

Dual Mesh Architecture: Nanite and Low Poly Options

The pack contains a total of 92 meshes, divided evenly into 46 Nanite constructions and 46 low poly counterparts. This pairing lets environment artists swap between fidelity tiers based on scene requirements. Nanite geometry handles high-quality, close-range visual detail without taxing performance in the same way traditional high-poly meshes might. The low poly equivalents serve as efficient alternatives for background placement, broader landscape scatter, or situations where hardware constraints dictate tighter polygon budgets.

Each model is fully detailed from all sides. This matters for yard plants and shrubs, which players or cameras can often orbit around in open exterior settings. Avoiding flat or unseen backs on foliage assets prevents visual breaks during gameplay exploration.

Material Controls and Channel-Packed Textures

A master material setup controls the majority of the props and models included in the project. Rather than relying on isolated material instances for every single plant, the master material approach unifies the shading logic across the pack. This gives artists a centralized hub for tweaking the look of their foliage.

The material setup exposes additional controls for roughness, albedo, and normals. Fire these parameters into the material instance, and you can adjust the sheen on wet leaves or shift the base color of a shrub to match a specific biome without touching texture files.

Texture sets arrive at 4K resolution, maintaining high fidelity for AAA-quality visuals. The textures use channel packing, combining Roughness, Metalness, and Ambient Occlusion into a single map. This technique reduces the number of texture samples the engine needs to pull, which streamlines memory usage and keeps the rendering pipeline efficient.

Lumen Compatibility and Rendering Setup

The assets support Lumen for Unreal Engine 5.0 and above. Lumen integration means the yard plants will bounce and react to global illumination dynamically. If an outdoor scene features dynamic time-of-day cycles, the foliage will receive and reflect light changes without requiring pre-baked lightmaps. Compatibility is confirmed for Unreal Engine versions 5.1 through 5.8.

To complement the raw geometry and materials, the project includes a realistic Post Process and Look Up Table (LUT). This provides a color-grading baseline that snaps scenes closer to the intended AAA visual style straight away. Applying the included LUT can quickly unify the tonal balance of an exterior environment.

Scene Application for Graveyard and Forest Environments

The included tags point directly to the intended use cases: Graveyard, Forest, Desert, Nature, and Exterior settings. The yard plants function as bushes, shrubs, leaves, and generic foliage fillers. In a graveyard scene, the low poly shrubs can cover distant terrain while Nanite bushes populate the immediate paths and tombstones with dense, realistic leaf geometry. In forest environments, the assets blend into the undergrowth.

The styling avoids specific real-world branding. All labels and branding are custom-made by the studio, meaning the assets carry no legal complications regarding trademarked or copyrighted real-world product replicas. This clears the way for commercial release without intellectual property concerns.

Performance Optimization for Game Pipelines

The assets are optimized for games. The combination of channel-packed textures, a unified master material, and the availability of low poly meshes works to keep draw calls and memory overhead in check. The documentation provides specific polycounts for every asset, allowing technical artists to calculate exact scene budgets before placing the foliage across a landscape.

For production-readiness, the pack delivers custom-made branding, fully detailed geometry from all angles, and the necessary post-process tools to achieve the realistic style shown in the promotional imagery.
