Photogrammetry Assets for Modern Urban Set Dressing

Urban Props Vol. 2 delivers photogrammetry-based environmental assets pulled directly from the Scans Factory library. Built to meet the requirements of real-time virtual productions and game environments, the package supplies realistic, high-fidelity geometry captured from real-world objects. Instead of relying on stylized interpretations or purely procedural approximations, each element carries authentic surface imperfections, wear patterns, and organic micro-details inherent to raw scan data.

The collection acts as a focused selection for projects requiring targeted urban dressing without the overhead of complete, expansive scene bundles. It includes roughly 40 unique meshes, expanding to 83 distinct assets once variations are factored in. These variations provide vital silhouette and texture changes, allowing environment artists to distribute items across street corners, alleyways, construction zones, and derelict industrial yards without immediate visual repetition.

Nanite and Lumen Integration for Version 5.1+

The package integrates natively with Unreal Engine starting from version 5.1, taking direct advantage of Nanite geometry streaming and Lumen global illumination. Photogrammetry naturally results in dense, intricate physical detail that previously required aggressive manual retopology and heavy normal map reliance. With Nanite enabled, the micro-crevices, pitted concrete, jagged edges, and layered rust on these models retain their geometric fidelity at both macro and micro distances without traditional polygon budget constraints.

Lumen support ensures that the complex occlusions found on objects like ventilation ducting, open containers, and crumpled cloth react accurately to dynamic indirect lighting. Deep cavities on the gas boxes, undersides of trailers, and crevices within loose brick piles properly occlude bounced light, eliminating the floating appearance common when placing photogrammetry assets into modern real-time lighting systems. The interaction between high-resolution geometric surfaces and real-time ray tracing keeps the visual tone grounded across changing times of day.

Breakdown of Scanned Meshes and Variations

The core lineup covers a spectrum of mid-sized architectural fixtures, operational hardware, and small debris scatter. Rather than presenting a disjointed assortment of items, the assets cluster around logical municipal and industrial themes:

  • Ground Scatter and Masonry: Surface breakup is supported by seven individual Brick meshes alongside two distinct BrickSet groupings. These allow level designers to transition cleanly from clean structural perimeters into fractured, deteriorating pavements or construction scatter.
  • Industrial and Utility Hardware: Functional infrastructure pieces include two Barrel models, a GasCylinder, a wall-mounted Gasbox, a Hydrant, an outdoor Lamp, and a dedicated VentilationShaft component.
  • Enclosures and Boundaries: Structural definition is provided through two Fence variations and a large-format MetalRustyWall asset that acts as an industrial divider or yard backdrop.
  • Transport and Bulk Storage: Heavy clutter includes a utility Barrow, a dedicated Trailer, and a large ContainerBox suited for loading docks and back alleys.
  • Soft Surface Clutter: Textural variety extends beyond hard-surface metal and stone via scanned Cloth props and RagBags, introducing soft-body folds, compressed fabric volumes, and realistic urban refuse to pavement scenes.

Surface Variety Across Bricks, Metal, and Debris

The visual strength of photogrammetry lies in material transition zones. In Urban Props Vol. 2, the metal assets illustrate varying stages of weather exposure. The MetalRustyWall displays flaking paint, raw oxidation, and accumulated grime along contact seams. The Barrel assets and GasCylinder showcase painted surfaces scuffed through handling, matching the natural aging seen on working industrial sites.

Masonry elements provide complementary physical texture. The individual bricks and combined brick sets feature chipped corners, uneven aggregate surfaces, and settled mortar. When placed directly against the included Ground asset, these pieces break up harsh right angles where structural walls meet horizontal street surfaces. The inclusion of soft elements like RagBags and Cloth breaks the monotony of hard pavement, simulating discarded trash, makeshift coverings, or storage remnants that build narrative context in neglected city sectors.

Workflow Placement and Environment Compatibility

Because the assets originate from the Scans Factory scanned asset ecosystem, they align directly with environments matching British and broader European urban aesthetics, such as the London - British Environment collections. The hydrant, street-side gas infrastructure, utility boxes, and specific brick styles reflect metropolitan architecture commonly encountered in older European districts and light industrial corridors.

The variation count of 83 meshes ensures smooth implementation across modular layouts. Level designers can establish a base pass using structural boundaries like the fence and rusty wall assets, move into secondary framing using the trailer and container boxes, and finalize the scene with detailed micro-scatter composed of bricks, rag bags, and barrels. Because the collision and geometry are pre-configured for modern real-time production, the assets drop directly into game-ready levels without requiring preliminary modeling adjustments or material reconfiguration.
