Comprehensive Mesh Library for Environment Dressing
The Medieval Farm Tools collection provides 55 distinct meshes designed to populate rural or agricultural scenes in medieval and fantasy settings. The developer has utilized a hand-sculpted modeling approach to achieve a stylized aesthetic that fits consistently across various prop types. The library is categorized into several functional groups, ranging from handheld implements to larger structural props.
For handheld utility, the pack includes basic tools such as axes, hammers, shovels, hoes, pickaxes, and pitchforks. More specialized agricultural items like sickles, scythes, rakes, and brooms are also included to round out farming scenes. Beyond simple tools, the collection features larger environmental props such as troughs, ladders, and sawing bucks. For set dressing related to timber and storage, the creator has included firewood, logs, and chopping blocks, allowing for the creation of detailed woodworking areas or outdoor workshops.
Technical Specifications and PBR Material Workflow
The asset is built with performance in mind, utilizing face counts that range from a low of 74 for simple objects to 2376 for the more complex meshes. This range allows for detailed foreground objects while maintaining efficiency across the scene. The visual style is supported by a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) workflow, utilizing a total of 21 materials and 52 textures.
Each texture is provided at a 2048×2048 resolution, ensuring clarity even when the player is in close proximity to the props. The material setup relies on four primary texture maps to define surface properties:
- Albedo: Provides the base color and stylized hand-painted detail.
- Metallic/Smoothness: Defines the reflective properties of the wood and metal surfaces.
- Normal: Adds depth and fine surface details without increasing the polygon count.
- Ambient Occlusion: Enhances the self-shadowing and grounding of the models within the environment.
Implementation for Animation and Interactivity
Version 1.2 of the package introduced specific updates to support object interactivity and animation. Both the cart and wheelbarrow assets have been designed with separated wheel models. This structural choice allows developers to animate the wheels independently from the main body of the prop, which is essential for movement sequences or physics-based interactions in-game.
To streamline the integration process, the developer has included 57 prefabs, which represent pre-configured versions of the meshes ready for placement. A demo scene is also included in the package, providing a reference for how the materials and lighting interact with the models in a typical environment setup.
Compatibility and Pipeline Support
The package is designed for broad compatibility across different versions of Unity and various rendering pipelines. Originally published for Unity 2018.4.0, it has been updated to support Unity 2020.3.13 and newer. For visual consistency across different project types, the assets are compatible with both the standard Built-in Render Pipeline and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP). This dual compatibility ensures that the PBR materials and stylized textures maintain their intended look regardless of the project’s chosen rendering path.
The entire package is contained within a 104.8 MB unitypackage, comprising 189 total assets. This includes the meshes, textures, materials, and prefabs necessary to implement the tools into a medieval or ancient-themed project. The low-poly nature of the models, combined with high-resolution PBR maps, makes them suitable for both PC and mobile platforms where stylized visuals are prioritized.
