Resource overview

Mining Animation is a package of 33 hand-crafted animation clips for a single working character. The breakdown covers 8 walks in different directions, 4 rolls in different directions, 1 idle animation, 5 hit reactions with direction, 6 mining animations, and a death animation that comes with Root Motion. The set also carries the tags Action, Pickaxe, Mining, Fantasy, Medieval, RPG, and Character, marking it as both a locomotion kit and a pickaxe work cycle for a third-person game character.

The 12 movement clips account for a sizeable share of the set. 8 walk animations spread across different directions give a directly controlled character a stable travel set, with each direction having its own clip to blend into. The 4 roll animations extend that same directional range into a dodge or reposition move. Together, walks and rolls form the layer the character uses to reach ore veins, avoid attacks, or close distance in combat before the mining or reaction animations take over.

8 Walks and 4 Rolls

Directional walk cycles are the backbone of any playable character, and this set spends a third of its clip count on them. 8 walks in different directions mean the controller has a clip for each major travel direction, which is exactly what a third-person camera setup expects when the player steers the character around a mining site or a fight. The 4 rolls in different directions belong to the same category: a roll to 1 side is not the same animation as a roll to the other, and separate clips keep the dodge responsive no matter which way the character turns.

The split between 8 walks and 4 rolls also hints at how the package treats movement. Walks are the default state, the clip the character returns to between actions. Rolls are the burst option when a mining loop needs to be interrupted or a hit reaction should lead into a quick escape. From a setup perspective, the 12 clips drop into standard locomotion slots, and the idle clip fills the gap whenever the character holds still.

6 Mining Animations

The 6 mining animations are where the package earns its name. With the Pickaxe and Mining tags attached, these clips are meant to read as a character breaking ore with a pickaxe rather than performing a generic melee swing. 6 separate mining animations give the work cycle room to breathe: consecutive swings can chain into a longer extraction sequence, and the loop can be entered from the idle state or broken out of when 1 of the hit reactions fires.

Because the set carries directional hit reactions, a character struck mid-swing has a matching response instead of cutting back to a neutral pose. That connection between the mining clips and the reaction clips matters in a gameplay loop where the character is exposed to damage while working. The animation set accounts for both sides of the interaction: the swing and the interruption.

Idle and 5 Hit Reactions

The idle animation sits at the center of the package. When the character is not walking, rolling, mining, or dying, the idle clip holds the pose together and gives the player a readable neutral state. It plays before the 1st mining swing, after a roll ends, and between hit reactions, so it needs to match the general posture of the walk and work animations. As part of a hand-crafted set, the idle is 1 more authored clip rather than an engine default.

The 5 hit reactions with direction handle the damage response. Directional here means the character reacts differently depending on where the incoming damage comes from, so the same character does not flinch in the same pose for every attack. 5 directional reactions give the animation layer enough variation to sell impacts from multiple angles. In a medieval or fantasy action setting, where enemies can surround the player, directional hit reactions keep the character readable even when combat gets messy.

Death Animation with Root Motion

The final state in the set is the death animation, and the package pairs it with Root Motion. Root Motion is a workflow in which the animation data itself drives the character's travel through the clip. Instead of a separate movement system pushing the body while the animation plays in place, the character's position follows the motion authored into the clip. For a death sequence, that approach keeps the fall and the final resting position tied to the animation, so the body settles where the animator intended.

The practical effect is less setup work during implementation. The animator decides how far the body travels, and the engine follows that path, which removes the sliding or floating that can appear when death poses are driven without Root Motion. For a set that also covers hit reactions and dodge rolls, a Root-Motion death animation closes the character's arc with the same authored consistency as the rest of the clips.

Fantasy, Medieval, and RPG Placement

The tag set—Action, Pickaxe, Mining, Fantasy, Medieval, RPG, and Character—frames the intended project fit. A medieval fantasy setting is the natural home for a pickaxe-wielding character, and a Role-Playing Game (RPG) character that walks in multiple directions, rolls, mines, reacts to hits, and eventually dies matches the control scheme of a standard third-person action game. The tags tie the asset to that context rather than leaving it as a generic collection of clips.

The compatibility information pairs this set with the Crossbow Animation Set. Teams that bring in both packages can cover pickaxe work and ranged combat for the same character, using the mining set for movement, reactions, and the work loop while the crossbow set handles distance attacks. In a production that needs a medieval fantasy character with both labor and ranged combat, the 2 sets act as a paired animation source.

What the package is set up to handle is a complete character arc in 1 place: move with 8 directional walks and 4 directional rolls, work with 6 mining swings, hold the idle state, react with 5 directional hit reactions, and fall through a Root-Motion death animation. All of it stays inside the 33-clip hand-crafted framework, governed by the Action, Fantasy, Medieval, and RPG tags that define the character it animates.
