Crows and seagulls are often the 1st to show up, and they are exactly what a post-apocalyptic or abandoned Unreal Engine scene needs to feel inhabited. Critters VOL.2 - Crows & Seagulls (Nanite and Low Poly w/Particle) provides that layer in 1 package, with 20 Meshes that cover 2 bird species in dead, posed, and particle forms.

The pack lets you populate an exterior environment with the 2 scavenger species most common in the kinds of scenes that need them: crows and seagulls. Every asset, Map, and Material in the set was created inside Unreal Engine, so when you import it you are not dealing with an external conversion pipeline. Dekogon Studios built it for realistic AAA quality, meaning the birds hold up under the same close scrutiny as the rest of a high-budget scene.

The 20 Meshes in the set are not simply the same bird on repeat. There are dead and posed versions of each bird type, and both Nanite and Low-Poly versions of each Mesh. That gives a scene builder enough permutations to place birds in multiple spots without visibly repeating 1 single asset. A dead seagull lying on the asphalt and a posed crow on a fence can coexist without looking cloned.

Master Material Controls That Run Across the Whole Set

Managing the look of bird feathers across several Meshes can be tedious if every model has its own Material. The Master Material setup in this pack controls the majority of all Props and models, so you can adjust the flock with 1 set of parameters. Alongside the standard controls, the setup includes additional adjustments for Roughness, Albedo, Normals, and more. In practice, that means you can darken a crow, increase the sheen on a seagull's back, or flatten the surface response for a bird lying in shadow without opening each Mesh in a Digital Content Creation (DCC) tool.

The 4K Texture sets give the feathers and skin enough detail for close-up camera work. When the player or camera moves in for a look at the bird's head, the Material and Texture response stays more convincing than a small, flat backdrop Prop. Since the same Material can be shared across the Nanite and Low-Poly versions, consistency between the 2 is baked in rather than improvised per asset.

Particle Birds That Move Overhead and Around Meshes

Static birds are only half of this pack. A bird particle for live movement and action around Mesh sources, and the tag set names Niagara, Unreal Engine's Particle System. This is a practical approach for scenes that need action without rigging or animating a flock. The particle birds fly overhead, adding motion to the sky while the Mesh birds stay anchored on geometry.

There is also a distinction between moving, active, and Mesh surface-based birds flying overhead particles. That phrasing suggests the Particle System can be used in 2 ways: 1 where birds sweep across the sky, and another 1 where they hover or move around existing surfaces like ruined building edges, road signs, or cliff faces. This is useful for Level Artists who want a seamless blend between a perched Mesh bird and a moving 1. You can place the surface-based particles around the same shapes that hold the static birds, and the scene reads as 1 flock instead of separate elements.

Nanite and Low-Poly Versions for Different Production Paths

Modern Unreal Engine projects often face a split between maximum-detail hero assets and lighter game-optimized objects. This pack bridges that split by providing both Nanite and Low-Poly versions of every Mesh. For projects using Lumen and Nanite in Unreal Engine 5.0+ (UE5.0+), the Nanite versions are ready and will respect those features directly. For lower-end targets or gameplay colliders, the Low-Poly versions keep the budget in check.

The range of tags around the asset—post, undead, kill, virus, and apocalyptic—gives a clear idea of the visual spaces it was created for. While it can work in a clean coastal setting as ordinary seagulls, the dead and posed variants are particularly useful in scenarios where something has gone wrong. A viral outbreak scene or a war-zone street needs bodies, and a dead crow is a smaller, simpler story cue than a full character corpse.

Making a Static Exterior Feel Alive with a 2-Step Placement

The fastest way to use this pack in a scene is to combine its dead and posed Meshes with its overhead particle birds. Place the Mesh birds on ledges, fences, and road surfaces where they are easily seen, then set up the moving particles in open sky areas. The 2 layers work together: the static birds give the eye a clear foreground point, while the particle birds keep the background from feeling empty.

Because the set is based on a shared Master Material, the tone of the birds can be matched to the scene's lighting and weather. If the environment is a foggy morning, you can lower the Albedo and adjust the Roughness across the whole set in a few clicks. That level of control makes the birds feel like they were placed during Level Art, not pasted in from an external model pack.

For an Unreal Engine artist looking to add scavenger birds to a realistic exterior, the main thing this pack solves is scope.
