Resource overview

Brushify - Canyons Pack is a canyon environment toolkit for Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) that places a full landscape workflow inside 1 single download. It combines sculpting brushes, Distance Meshes, procedural scattering, and an Auto-Texturing Material, all anchored by a ready-made Level that can be opened and run immediately. The pack was updated for 2024 and is aimed at Unreal Engine 5.4+ (UE5.4+). Its visual identity is rooted in the American Southwest, with tags pointing to mesas, buttes, Arizona, Utah, and Monument-style environments.

A Playable Canyon Level, Ready for Unreal Engine 5.4+

Instead of starting from a blank Map, users can load the included Canyons Level and immediately begin testing gameplay, creating Cinematics, or learning from the example setup. The Level uses Runtime Virtual Texturing (RVT), which helps stream terrain Textures more efficiently. Lumen is enabled by default, so Global Illumination and reflections work out of the box. Nanite support is also built into the pack and can be enabled when higher polygon density is needed. Because the Level is playable out of the box, it gives immediate access to a fully realized canyon environment.

This ready-made Level is more than a flat demo. It shows how the Brushify assets are meant to work together, from the butte Meshes that anchor the skyline to the terrain brushes that shape the ground. For a Level Designer, it is a head start; for an Environment Artist, it is a reference for how the Materials and spawners behave in a real scene. The example setup also makes it easier to learn the intended workflow before building a new Level from scratch.

Alpha Brushes, Distance Meshes, and Real-World Height Data

The pack includes 4 canyon terrain brushes, each paired with both alpha brushes and Distance Meshes. The alpha brushes are stored as 4 separate channels inside 1 single 8192x8192 Texture. That arrangement lets an artist sculpt mountains directly into the landscape while maintaining real-time control over the result. These brushes are meant to add terrain detail after the overall shape has been blocked out, letting the artist refine canyon walls and ridgelines while staying in the sculpting workflow.

Distance Meshes, meanwhile, are optimized geometry that matches the playable landscape. They let a canyon or mesa extend far into the horizon without pulling performance, a useful trick when a scene needs a detailed background vista. Both the alpha brushes and Distance Meshes were generated from real-world Height Data and then texturized to produce high-resolution results. This Canyons Pack includes 4 canyon Distance Meshes specifically for background vistas, along with 3 unique canyon butter Meshes for the main rock formations. The combination means a Level can have a convincing middle ground and long-distance view without relying on 1 single ultra-dense Mesh.

Procedural Spawners for Desert Slopes

To populate slopes with vegetation and stone, the pack relies on procedural spawners. These spawners automatically place desert rocks and bushes across terrain, using optimized assets created with Photogrammetry. The scattered objects include grass, flowers, bushes, rocks, and pebbles, along with juniper bushes and a dedicated optimized Grass Mesh. The procedural spawner covers terrain slopes with rocks and foliage, which saves hours of manual placement when dressing a large canyon.

Because the spawner works on slopes, it places detail where canyon terrain naturally accumulates rocks and plants. The Scatter Meshes are small but numerous, so the result reads as dense ground cover rather than a few isolated Props. For a Level Designer, this is a quick way to add environmental storytelling without hand-placing every pebble. The Photogrammetry approach keeps the assets looking realistic at close range, while the spawner manages the distribution across a wide area.

Landscape Auto Material and Biome Variety

The Brushify Landscape Auto Material is the main texturing tool in the pack. Once applied to any landscape, it automatically textures the terrain and can cover the ground with optimized rocks and grass that match each Biome. The Material lists 11 landscape layers, including Grass, Desert, Forest, Snow, Beach, Dunes, Mud, and Craters. Most of these appear as 9 paintable Biome Materials: Grass, GrassDry, Desert, Dunes, Beach, Forest, ForestDry, Snow, and Mud. The system also supports Texture variants for Snow, Grassland, Desert, and Rocky Biomes, giving the pack a range beyond dry canyon ground.

Under the surface, the Material includes support for Runtime Virtual Texturing (RVT), Parallax Occlusion Mapping (POM), Tri-Planar Mapping, Tessellation, Height-Based Roughness, a reduced-distance tiling feature, and a 3-stage LOD System for far, medium, and near distances. The Shader is modular, so individual functions can be removed or customized to streamline the Material for specific projects. A Near Mesh Shader swaps assets between Biomes such as snow, desert, and coast, and the pack also ships a simple Water Shader, a Foliage Material, and a Cloud Shadows Material. Together, these cover the main visual layers of a canyon scene: ground texturing, near-field Props, distant Meshes, and ambient lighting effects.

Technical Specifications and Merging Brushify Packs

On the technical side, all Textures in the pack are 8192x8192 resolution. The Meshes range from 1,000 to 62,000 vertices, and every Mesh ships with 6 LODs. The asset breakdown includes 4 distance terrain Meshes, 3 rock Meshes, 1 Grass Mesh, 4 Materials, 30 Material Instances, 40 Textures, and 1 Terrain Alpha Brush Texture. Alongside the canyon butter Meshes and terrain brushes, this produces a large but organized content set.

Brushify packs are designed to be combined. In the Epic Games Launcher, users can merge packs by selecting Add to project and then choosing Overwrite files. This works because Brushify packs share generic objects, Textures, and Shaders, so overwriting makes sure those shared pieces stay consistent. That means a canyon environment can later be extended with other Brushify Biomes or terrain types without starting from scratch. For studios that already use Brushify elsewhere, the Canyons Pack slides into an existing asset library without introducing a new workflow.

By combining these systems, the pack covers the main stages of canyon construction, from terrain shape to Biome blending and scatter placement. The ready-made Level provides a starting point, while the sculpting and scattering tools make it possible to push the environment further in any direction. The hand-off between alpha brushes, Distance Meshes, spawners, and the Auto Material is where the time savings appear.
