City Pack – Modular and Tileable

Modular Urban Construction and Rapid Prototyping

The City Pack is designed as a modular city builder that prioritizes speed and flexibility in level design. The core of this system lies in its 48 pre-assembled building blocks, which function as snappable components for environment assembly. These blocks include a variety of road segments, intersections, and pavement tiles that allow developers to establish the layout of a metropolis in a short timeframe. By utilizing these tileable assets, it is possible to generate hundreds of unique layouts, ranging from modern business districts to dense downtown streets, without encountering repetitive visual patterns.

The modular design philosophy extends to the structures themselves. The pack includes 37 unique buildings, featuring a range of modern skyscrapers and urban structures. These assets are built to be photo-realistic while remaining highly versatile, allowing for the construction of everything from sprawling cityscapes in racing games to the tight, vertical corridors required for urban shooters. The system is intended to reduce the time spent on manual placement by providing a framework where assets snap together seamlessly.

Technical Optimization for Mobile and Standalone VR

Performance is a primary focus of the City Pack, particularly for hardware-constrained environments like mobile devices and standalone VR headsets. The developer has implemented several optimization techniques to ensure high visual fidelity without sacrificing frame rates. The geometry is low-poly, and the assets utilize atlassed textures and shared materials. This approach is specifically designed to minimize draw calls, which is critical for maintaining performance on platforms such as the Oculus (Meta Quest), Vive, and mobile operating systems like iOS and Android.

The inclusion of specific optimization for Daydream and other mobile platforms ensures that the city environments remain performant during active gameplay. By sharing materials across multiple structures and props, the engine can batch rendering tasks more efficiently, which is a vital consideration for developers building large-scale urban scenes that would otherwise overwhelm mobile processors.

Visual Fidelity and Rendering Pipeline Compatibility

Despite the focus on optimization, the City Pack utilizes a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) workflow to maintain a high level of realism. Every surface in the pack includes Normal Maps to simulate complex surface details without increasing polygon counts. Additionally, the assets feature Alpha Channel masks specifically designed for window reflections, adding a layer of depth to the skyscrapers and modern buildings.

To ensure consistent visual quality across different projects, the pack is compatible with both the High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP). Separate packages are provided to allow developers to overwrite materials, ensuring the same quality standards are met regardless of the chosen render pipeline. The lighting setup is further enhanced by a custom Sky HDRI and pre-configured Reflection Probes, which provide realistic, baked-in lighting effects that react appropriately to the PBR materials.

Implementation of Props and Physics Colliders

An urban environment requires more than just buildings and roads to feel lived-in. The pack includes 22 detailed props intended to add life to the streets. These include functional elements such as street lights, benches, and bins, as well as specific road detailing. These props follow the same optimization and PBR standards as the larger structures, ensuring they blend seamlessly into the environment.

To streamline the implementation process, every asset in the pack comes equipped with custom-fitted physics colliders. This removes the need for developers to manually set up collision geometry for complex building shapes or street props. These colliders are designed to work immediately upon placement, ensuring that vehicles, player characters, and environmental physics interact accurately with the geometry as soon as the simulation begins. This out-of-the-box functionality is particularly useful for rapid prototyping where physics-based interaction is a core component of the gameplay loop.

Versatility in Urban Environment Systems

The City Pack functions as a complete urban environment system rather than a simple collection of standalone models. Because the assets are built on modular principles, the flexibility of the pack allows it to adapt to various project needs, from clean, high-end commercial districts to more industrial or gritty urban settings. The combination of snappable tiles, low-poly structures, and comprehensive prop sets provides a foundation for creating diverse urban landscapes while maintaining a consistent technical standard across all assets.
