Modular Gardening and Survival Cultivation

SurrounDead – Garden serves as a dedicated expansion for the existing survival asset series, maintaining the established hand-painted visual style while introducing a comprehensive set of agricultural tools and structures. The package focuses on the mechanical and visual aspects of food production within a game environment, providing the necessary components to build out domestic or post-apocalyptic farming scenes. With over 150 new meshes, the collection moves beyond simple static props to include systems for growth and structural customization.

The core of the package is centered on plant life and the infrastructure required to maintain it. By offering 7 distinct plant types, each featuring four specific growth stages, the developer provides a clear visual path for farming mechanics. This allows for the implementation of time-based progression where players can see the transition from a sprout to a mature, harvestable plant. The inclusion of specific vegetables like potatoes, carrots, onions, and cabbage, alongside more complex plants like tomatoes, cucumbers, and pumpkins, ensures a variety of crop types for different environmental contexts.

Agricultural Assets and Growth Mechanics

A significant portion of the asset list is dedicated to the plants themselves. There are 8 specific vegetables included, and in recent updates, the developer has separated the crops for tomato, cucumber, and pumpkin plants. This separation is a functional detail that allows the actual produce to be handled as an independent mesh from the main plant body, which is essential for harvest animations or inventory interactions. The four growth stages per plant provide the granular detail needed for survival games where resource management and timing are central to the gameplay loop.

To support these plants, the pack includes 39 different raised beds and trellises. These assets serve as the foundation for organized farming plots, allowing for structured garden layouts within a game world. The variety in beds ensures that creators can build anything from small backyard patches to larger, more organized agricultural zones. These meshes are designed to work in tandem with the 20 scene dressing items specifically tailored for raised beds and greenhouses, adding layers of lived-in detail such as dirt piles, tools, or cultivation accessories.

Constructing Functional Greenhouses

Beyond open-air farming, the package features 9 modular greenhouse elements. These components allow for the construction of indoor growing environments of varying sizes and shapes. Unlike the majority of the pack which relies on diffuse-only textures to maintain a specific hand-painted look, the greenhouse materials utilize a more complex setup including albedo, normal, and smoothness maps. This distinction ensures that the glass or translucent surfaces of the greenhouse interact correctly with light, providing a visual contrast to the organic assets contained within.

The structural elements are supplemented by a large collection of 72 props. These props cover the miscellaneous items found in a gardening context, filling out the environment to make it feel functional and utilized. Whether it is for a quiet rural scene or a fortified survival base, these props provide the secondary details that ground the modular greenhouse and planting beds in the world.

Technical Composition and Optimization

On a technical level, the assets are built with performance in mind. The triangle counts for the meshes range between 500 and 1000, placing them in a mid-to-low poly range that is suitable for scenes requiring high asset density. All 150+ meshes are provided in .fbx format and include UV mapping. Colliders are integrated into the package, utilizing box, mesh, or custom colliders depending on the specific requirements of the object’s shape.

The visual identity is defined by 29 hand-painted textures. Most of these are .tga files with resolutions ranging from 256px up to 1024px. The use of diffuse-only textures for the majority of the organic assets emphasizes the stylized, hand-crafted aesthetic of the series. The developer has also updated the package to support the Linear color space, moving away from Gamma to ensure better lighting consistency in modern rendering setups.

Environment Integration and Pipeline Support

The package is compatible with both the Built-in Render Pipeline and the Universal Render Pipeline (URP). Recent updates have specifically addressed URP compatibility, including adjustments to lighting to ensure that the visuals remain consistent regardless of the chosen pipeline. The asset organization has been refined through various versions, with the current iteration supported in Unity 2021.3.39 LTS and newer.

For those building survival-themed projects, the modularity of the greenhouse and the staged growth of the plants offer a practical framework for interactive systems. The combination of structural elements, growth-stage meshes, and a wide array of props allows for the creation of detailed agricultural hubs that fit seamlessly with the broader survival game aesthetic. The focus remains on providing a complete kit for gardening, from the initial planting stages to the final construction of protective growing environments.
