Physics-Based Endless Racing Mechanics

Highway Racer is an all-in-one package designed for the creation of endless highway racing games. The core gameplay revolves around dodging traffic at high speeds, accumulating points, and managing vehicle upgrades. At its foundation, the system uses the latest version of Realistic Car Controller Pro to power all player vehicles, ensuring physics-based interactions and handling across different environments. The package is built to support a variety of camera perspectives, including first-person (FPS), third-person (TPS), and top-down views, allowing for different gameplay styles within the same project framework.

Included Vehicles and City Environments

The package provides a foundational set of assets to populate a racing scene. This includes 14 player vehicles and 5 specific traffic vehicles. To house these assets, the template features four distinct levels: one main menu scene and three active gameplay levels set within city environments. These environments are designed to be managed through editor scripts that allow for the configuration of unlockable and upgradable cars. The project structure is organized to facilitate the addition of new content through dedicated editor windows, which streamline the process of managing vehicle stats and level layouts.

Optimization and Performance for Multiple Platforms

Because the template is designed for deployment on PC, Mac, Android, iOS, and WebGL, it employs several optimization techniques to maintain performance during high-speed gameplay. One primary method is the use of pooling for lightmapped roads, which ensures efficient scene management as the player progresses through the endless environment. Traffic vehicles are also optimized by removing WheelColliders, reducing the physics calculation load. Despite this optimization, the traffic system includes lane-switching behavior to maintain difficulty, and developers can adjust traffic density through the provided settings to scale the challenge as needed.

Technical Requirements and Pipeline Integration

The project is built for the Universal Render Pipeline (URP) and requires the latest URP updates from the Package Manager to prevent dependency issues. It is compatible with Unity 2022.3.51f1 and newer versions, as well as Unity 6 (6000.0.25f1). With a file size of approximately 631.9 MB and a total asset count of 1,909, the package includes a variety of scripts focused on core game systems such as scoring, multipliers, and UI canvases. Detailed documentation is provided to assist with configuring new vehicles, designing levels, and setting up the main menu and options systems.

Workflow and Customization Features

The developer has included user-friendly editor scripts aimed at reducing the time required for manual configuration. These tools are used for setting up the UI, managing the score system, and adjusting vehicle performance parameters. The scripts are documented and designed for customization, enabling the integration of unique gameplay rules or visual adjustments. This framework is particularly suited for developers looking to establish a functional racing loop—complete with vehicle progression and traffic management—within the Unity engine.
