Comprehensive Environment Assembly with 547 Prefabs
The BIG Environment Pack Reforged is a broad collection of assets designed for developers working within Unity’s Built-in Render Pipeline. The package focuses on providing a large quantity of handcrafted, game-ready prefabs that cover both natural and architectural needs. With 547 prefabs in total, the library is structured to handle everything from micro-level ground detail to large-scale structural silhouettes. Each asset is integrated with Level of Detail (LOD) stages to assist with performance management in dense scenes.
The resource is organized into several distinct categories, allowing for the construction of diverse biomes. This includes a heavy emphasis on vegetation, geological formations, and a modular system for medieval-style fortifications. The developer has provided 12 atmospheric audio clips that are looped for continuous use, alongside six particle effects to add environmental motion to static scenes.
Foliage Diversity and Natural Ground Cover
Vegetation makes up a significant portion of the package, offering a wide range of species to prevent visual repetition in large outdoor areas. The foliage system is broken down into specific layers:
- Trees and Bushes: There are 11 different tree species available in 108 variations, ranging from polycounts of 1,264 to 15,070 at their highest detail (LOD 0). These are supported by six bush species in 49 variations.
- Plants and Flowers: For lower-level detail, the pack includes 25 species of plants in 69 variations and five species of flowers in nine variations.
- Grass and Underbrush: Ground coverage is handled through 15 grass textures and six specific grass meshes. Underbrush is further diversified with 37 types available in 20 variations.
Texture resolutions across these assets range from 2048×2048 up to 4096x4096px, ensuring that the natural elements maintain visual fidelity even at close range. The package also includes 12 different terrain textures to provide a base for these biological assets.
Modular Castle Construction and Architecture
The architectural side of the pack is divided between standalone buildings and a modular Castle Construction Kit. The kit consists of nine different components that allow for the assembly of keeps, walls, and fortifications in custom shapes. These components include castle walls, curved walls, wall bracers, and stairs. For example, the Castle_Wall prefab sits at 27,235 triangles, while more complex pieces like the TowerGate reach 116,346 triangles at LOD 0.
Beyond the modular kit, there are 18 standalone buildings. These structures are designed with optimized collision meshes and include several specific types of towers and houses:
- Towers: Options include a Mage Tower (65,732 triangles), an Old Tower (29,318 triangles), and a large Castle Tower (116,412 triangles).
- Dwellings: The set includes a Common House (54,800 triangles), a Wood House (68,243 triangles), and a Chapel (87,618 triangles).
- Functional Structures: Smaller builds such as sheds, wells, and bridges are included to fill out a town or outpost layout.
Geological Assets and Optimized Collisions
To bridge the gap between structures and nature, the pack provides 21 different types of rocks and stones in 108 variations. These geological assets are built with optimized collision meshes, which is critical for player navigation in rocky terrain. The polycounts for these assets vary significantly based on the scale; simple stones start as low as 44 triangles, while large rock formations can reach 11,374 triangles. Stone piles are also included as separate prefabs to add clusters of detail to cliffsides or paths.
Prop Library and Scene Examples
The package includes 58 props to populate both interior and exterior environments. These range from standard furniture and fences to more specific thematic items like gallows (37,718 triangles), cages (20,488 triangles), and campfires. Recent updates to the package have added specific details such as skeleton prefabs, water for the well prefab, and stalagmites for cave environments.
To demonstrate how these assets function together, three example scenes are included:
- Full Island Scene: A large-scale environment utilizing LODs and occlusion culling to showcase performance at scale.
- Caribbean Example Scene: A focused biome demonstration.
- Floating Rock Example Scene: A vertical environment layout.
These scenes provide a template for how the developer intended the various layers of foliage, rocks, and buildings to be layered. The inclusion of collision meshes for buildings and rocks ensures that these scenes are not just visual benchmarks but are functional for character movement out of the box.
